Dear Ian
Thank you for a great Website and Definitely Great Addin's. I am a QS myself and Also use Win QS extensively. Your WinQS ASCII Import has helped me tremendously as All Contractors nowadays requests an Excel Copy of The B of Q. It use to take me hours previously to import and clean up and now it only takes me minutes. I have however run into a problem. I am busy working on a huge project and when Importing the ASCII file it runs smoothly until it reaches a certain number of lines then it just "hangs". I have tried everything but it still seems to get stuck at the same point. PLEASE HELP.

Hi there,
Thank you for the positive comments, much appreciated.
The import routine may go into an infinite loop (hang) when it comes across an unusual combination of characters at the end of one of the lines of text it is trying to import. For example, character combinations such as ... or (?) may cause issues.
If possible, try to identify the description that the import routine is busy with when it hangs. Then locate this same description in the text file exported from WinQS to see if there are any unusual character combinations at the end of the lines in this description.
Removing these characters from the description (either in the text file or in WinQS before exporting to a text file) should solve the problem.
Please keep me up to date on this issue.
Kind regards,
Ian

Ian
I checked the description where Excel hangs, and have changed some of the characters but still experience the not responding error.
Do you have other suggestions to fix the problem?

Hi Ian,
I got the problem, the error (loop?) was a line starting with a comma... It is all fine now. Thanks.

Hi Mareli,
Thanks for the feedback, glad you have resolved the issue.
On a side note, this error should not occur when importing text files created with the new version (V2?) of WinQS. The manner in which the data is exported to the text file has been changed.
Kind regards,
Ian
